What We're About
Nervous Industries is a board company founded by Surfer/Shaper Michael Watkins. Our mission is to build and progress craft for surfing.
Michael’s a dedicated craftsman and surfer who left a building career to shape boards. So naturally, having already acquired a trade involving construction, it was not a difficult transition.
Here at Nervous Industries we focus on the fun of surfing and our products are made to inspire the adventure and creative side of surfing.
Michael likes to explore materials and the artistic side to board construction but also the progression of performance, always testing, always looking to improve all elements of his products performance.
Our Blanks
Michael Watkins’ development of the Core Duo blank combines EPS and PU with Ayous stringers.
Features:
- EPS centre panel & PU side panels with balsa stringer
- All the floatation of an EPS blank with greater hold & drive through turns you’ve come to expect from PU
- Glue lines can be adjusted to further tail the blank to your needs
- Unique balsa/ayous stringer designed to eradicate twist & rather store & release energy under load flexing from nose to tail
The Core Duo is designed not to twist when it flexes, so the surfer can get controlled and stored energy release and energy flex out of a board, creating greater propulsion as a result. One of the blanks key design features is to provide extra flotation from a standard blank with a PU rail. Patent pending (#2023206098).
The Core Duo Blank, the world’s most sophisticated blank, is now available to the public. This blank is the most advanced surfboard blank and will pave the way for the future of surfing. The blank has been in development for the last 9 years and feedback has been outstanding in both performance and durability. Michael has sought to create the ultimate hybrid.

V2 Rocket
The V2 rocket is our first vetted first quality signature model. Michael has spent years as a surfer/shaper purifying this model through a long testing process.
The board is a modern/retro mashup of a reliable twin fish. It has a modern surfboard outline, with modern surfboard bottom curves, complemented by retro feelings from the S deck. The flat rocker and the generous volume in the foil making paddle power easier to achieve.
The V2 rocket will be available in stock in both PU foam, EPS foam and also our unique Core duo blank with the epoxy lamination/carbon combinations also.
This model is available from 5’2″ to 6′. Laminated strength 4 + 4 + 4.
Viper
The Viper is a medium length single flier, twin-pin with two channels running in an angular form. The bottom curve is a V into single concave into V. This mid-length twin is a very playful and loose board with a short feeling for it’s mid-length.
Available sizes 6’6″ to 7’6″. Laminated strength is 6 + 4 + 4.
Beggar
This is a fun and playful mini mal design suited for all Australian east coast conditions, designed with those conditions in mind. This board is an excellent paddler and very playful even in critical conditions.
Sizes available between 7’6″ and 8’4″. Laminating strength 6 + 4 + 4.
